A Hamster's Diet These are the guidelines of what a hamster's diet should consist of:
17%-22% Protein 8%-10% Fiber 4%-6% Fat Along with food your hamster's diet should contain fruits and veggies and other fresh foods for hamsters as frequently as possible. You can also look up a list of unsafe and safe hamster foods. |
Good Hamster Foods |
Some good hamster foods are Higgins Sunburst, VitaCraft VitaSmart, and Carefresh Complete Menu. You will need other add-ons to these. Some good add-ons are Mazuri Rat and Mouse food or the Supreme Science Selective Hamster Food. My diet is half Higgins Sunburst and half Mazuri Rat and Mouse Food along with add-ins. This provides the correct nutrition my hamsters need. You can also make your own mix as long as it meets the nutrition requirements.

How much?
|
It depends on the hamster, but I feed my Syrian Hamster 2 tbsp every couple days. If you have a smaller hamster you will need to feed less, maybe 1 tbsp every couple days. It's important to remember that usually hamsters don't need to be fed everyday. They will stuff their cheek pouches with food and return to their nest. Consequently, this means that just because your hamster's bowl is empty, that doesn't mean they ate all their food.
Hamsters are desert animals, so they don't drink too much water. That being said, you still need a good water bottle that doesn't leak. You can use a ceramic water bowl, but those can get messy. Some good ones water bottles are Living World Water Bottles, Kaytee Water Bottle, and the Super Pet Water bottle. Refill the water bottle around every day to every few days with fresh water. |
